Awards
A number of Parks & Open Space projects have been recognised by awards:
In July 2011, St Andrews Park (Bristol) was awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award. AFLA designed the new children's play area within the overall park area.
In July 2010 and 2011, Jubilee Park (Weston-super-Mare) was awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award in recognition of the excellent use of green space, high standards of security and safety, community involvement and well-maintained facilities. This is the first park in the district to be recognized with this Award.
In 2007, Redcliffe Open Space (Somerset Square) was awarded a prestigious Green Pennant Award.
During 1998-9, Alex Fraser was the Landscape Architect working within a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the restoration of Queen Square, the prestigious Georgian open space in the centre of Bristol. Queen Square has won the prestigious Green Flag Award in 2008, 2009, 2010 and again in 2011.
A number of Elderly Care and Housing projects have also been recognized by awards; in these schemes, AFLA designed the landscape element as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
In 2011, The St Monica Trust was awarded the Pinders’ “Best facility for Dementia Care in the UK” award for The Russets Sandford Care Village (Somerset). AFLA designed the landscape for this development which included a 3-hectare country park, meadows, communal allotments, bowling green and flower gardens.
In 2009, John Foster’s Almshouse was highly commended in the Almshouse Association Patrons Awards 2010.
Sandford dementia care unit has been recognized as the best facility for dementia care in the UK; in 2009, The St Monica Trust received the “UK Over-50s Housing Awards” for this development.
In 2006, The St Monica Trust was awarded the Pinders’ “Best Assisted Living Development” for the Westbury Fields Care Village. AFLA designed the landscape for this development which included a county-standard cricket pitch and within the care village, a croquet lawn and numerous small garden spaces.
In 2006, KWL Architects were awarded a Welsh Housing Design Award for Clarence House, Pontypool. AFLA designed the soft landscaping for this development.
In 2005, The St Monica Trust was awarded the Pinders’ “Best New Development (elderly care)" for the Cote Lane Care Home. AFLA designed the landscape for this development.
In 2005, KWL Architects were awarded a Welsh Housing Design Award for Highfields Care Home, Blackwood. AFLA designed the soft landscaping for this development.
