Bonn Square (Design Competition)
AFLA took part in an international design competition to redesign a run-down Square in the centre of Oxford. AFLA’s design gave the Square a contemporary yet timeless appearance with public art and water playing a major role in creating a lively and memorable open space, in keeping with the history, listed buildings and present day use of the Square. We felt that it was important to create a scheme that had elements of light, movement, water and fun, whilst creating a suitable setting for the Tirah Memorial and the Baptist Chapel. Our human figures were a response to the unpopularity and run down state of the present day Square.
